Quang Ngo honoured with 2023 pediatrics education award for transformative educational contributions at McMaster University
Dr. Quang Ngo, associate professor of pediatrics, is the 2023 Department of Pediatrics Education Innovation Award (DPEIA) recipient. The award is given every two years in recognition of innovation, contributions to curriculum, and impactful research in education.
During his tenure in Pediatrics, Ngo has held leadership roles in the core pediatrics residency program at McMaster University, where he supported the program’s growth and created a core pediatrics residency simulation curriculum.
He is also the founding program director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Subspecialty Training program at McMaster, which has attracted both Canadian and international learners since its inception and accreditation.
As this year’s DPEIA recipient, Ngo receives a bursary, and joins previous award recipients: David Callen (2021) and Muzafar Gani Abdul Wahab (2018).
“I’m incredibly grateful to the committee and those who nominated me for this award given its significance and the remarkable educators who have received it previously,” Ngo said. “I’m proud of the work that we do in serving the needs of the learners in our education programs and was touched that many others felt this was deserving of recognition.”
Associate Chair of Education, Ereny Bassilious, celebrates Ngo’s passion to help learners excel. “He embodies all the qualities of an excellent teacher, educator, and education scholar and models these qualities with humility to all those who interact with him. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this year’s award,” said Bassilious.
Ngo acknowledges his achievements are the result of collaboration with numerous colleagues.
“So many people are integral in the education of our medical learners. We have many staff and faculty without whom none of our education programs come to life, and I thank them for their energy and selflessness,” Ngo said.
