Faculty in pediatric emergency medicine have won numerous awards in medical education from trainees who repeatedly describe our rotation as providing a safe, educational environment and outstanding clinical experience. Our dedicated team of terrific physicians work hard to balance the individual needs of the patient, the overall flow of the department, the learning of the residents and students, as well as maintaining a friendly and supportive culture.

We currently see over 50,000 children per year, act as the region’s pediatric trauma centre, and are a schedule 1 psychiatric facility. We are proud to serve our community and are committed to continuous quality improvement. Our team has made significant advances in patient care, improving emergency department patient flow, decreasing wait times, and standardizing care in order to ensure best care for all.

Division members are involved in many research initiatives. Our research addresses local quality improvement opportunities as well as multi-centre studies examining larger topics relevant to children across Canada.We have a dedicated group of researcher-physicians, as well as support staff in place to ensure the division contributes to continuous improvement. Current topics of study include: ear infections, pneumonia, sepsis, debriefing, appendicitis, and bronchiolitis.
