About the Event
On March 26, 2025, in the McMaster University Student Centre, researchers, clinicians, and families from across McMaster University, McMaster Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton will come together to showcase research projects and innovations that span the child healthcare landscape.
Developed with partners from across Hamilton’s child health community, McMaster Child Health Research Day (MCHRD) is a knowledge translation forum for research teams and trainees from all disciplines who focus on improving health and quality of life for children and their families.
MCHRD is a full-day event featuring keynote speaker, research posters and presentations from diverse fields of study including innovations in clinical care, care of children with chronic conditions, determinants of health, health system improvement, mental health, patient and family engagement in research and more. Christine T. Chambers, PhD RPsych FRSC FCAHS
Dr. Christine Chambers is an international leader in children’s pain research and a national voice for children’s health. Named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network, Christine has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and is recognized in the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world.
As Scientific Director of the Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Christine is steering a bold vision to foster research that promotes better beginnings, vibrant childhoods and empowered youth.
She is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Children’s Pain at Dalhousie University, a faculty member in the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at IWK Health Centre, and Scientific Director of Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP).

Participate in McMaster Child Health Research Day on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, as we commemorate the contributions to child health research by learners, research staff, parent & family partners and new investigators across the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Abstracts are now being accepted here.
The deadline for submission is February 26th, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Presentations are open to learners and research staff working with a primary supervisor within the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, as well as parent & family partners and new investigators.

The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University is excited to offer two workshops to help presenters excel at McMaster Child Health Research Day.
February 6, 2025: How to Write an Abstract
Led by: Maddy Byra & Samantha Morin, PhD Candidates in the Child Health & Exercise Medicine Program
This workshop will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in person only in HSC 3A14.
This dynamic and engaging workshop is designed to help learners enhance their abstract writing skills. Active involvement including hands-on learning activities and discussion. This will include peer discussion and feedback, identification of required components and inclusion of concise and impactful language.

February 13, 2025: How to Create a Research Poster
Led by: Elizabeth Gunn, MSc, Senior Research Advisor in the Department of Pediatrics
This workshop will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., presented via Zoom.
In this workshop, learners will delve into the art of crafting an effective research poster. They will explore techniques to enhance the visual appeal of their poster, impart skills on effectively narrating their research story, discuss strategies for promoting interactivity, and emphasize the importance of ensuring that information is presented in a way accessible and comprehensible to a diverse audience, including those without specialized knowledge in the field.

In particular, we are looking for help in adjudicating the large number of research presentations (posters & oral presentations).

We are currently seeking faculty, staff, learners/trainees, and family partner communities who are willing to contribute their time through volunteering.
The time commitment is confined to the day of the event and encompasses a concise orientation session beforehand.
This presents a valuable opportunity for graduate students and postgraduate medical trainees to refine their research evaluation skills through active participation as judges.

McMaster Child Health Research Day (MCHRD) is a knowledge translation forum developed in collaboration with academic and community partners across Hamilton. MCHRD is designed to spotlight the research contributions of learners, staff, parent & family partners and new investigators from all disciplines who focus on improving health and quality of life for children and their families.
This in-person event will be held at the McMaster University Student Centre on March 26, 2025, and includes oral and poster presentations by research learners and staff, parent and family partners and new investigators, a keynote speaker, networking opportunities, and awards. Poster and oral presentations will be adjudicated (judged) and awards will be presented at the end of the event.
The primary focus is to share the excellent work being done by research learners and staff, parent and family partners and new investigators.

YES! Patients and families, child health researchers and trainees from other academic institutions, community pediatricians, school board leaders and educators, child-focused community organizations, and high school students interested in research are welcome to attend.

The event is a collaboration with McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences’ child health research leaders including, the Department of Pediatrics, CanChild, the Offord Centre, and Centre for Metabolism, Obesity and Diabetes Research (MODR). Our hospital partners are McMaster Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

McMaster Child Health Research Day will be held in the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC) at the McMaster University Campus.
The event will be held in two areas of the building:
- MUSC Marketplace (1st floor): Posters sessions (am & pm). MUSC Marketplace is fully accessible and will have staff/volunteers monitoring the posters for the duration of the event.
- CIBC Hall (3rd floor): Opening Remarks/Land Acknowledgement, Oral presentations, Keynote Speaker & Awards ceremony. The third floor is accessible by both stairs and all three elevators in the building.
There will be time in between sessions to allow for transition between areas as needed. Clear signage with directions to event areas will be posted. Uniformed event staff will also be present on both floors and can help guide attendees as needed.
Paid parking, including accessible parking spots, is available directly beside the MUSC. The building is also positioned close to public transit stops. There will be plenty of seating available for presenters, guests, and facilitators as needed. A separate, quiet room for attendees, presenters, and facilitators will be available throughout the day for anyone who needs a break in a low-sensory environment.
