Our cardiologists are actively involved in both hands-on clinical teaching as well as theory-based instruction for both postgraduate and undergraduate trainees. Our passion for teaching has led us to expand our educational initiatives from McMaster University trainees to our colleagues in the community with the goal of sharing our clinical approach and supporting patients from the time of the primary care provider’s assessment.

In addition to our outpatient clinic, our cardiologists also offer inpatient care and consultations to the neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, emergency department, inpatient wards, and to other subspecialties within McMaster Children’s Hospital. We also work with the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) clinic to ensure an inherent transition for our patients.

Our division maintains a fetal cardiology program. Collaboration with the maternal fetal medicine group in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University allows us to screen for congenital heart disease and guide care during fetal life. We provide families with comprehensive prenatal counselling as well as extensive planning for perinatal management to optimize outcomes.

The division also works closely with colleagues at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto to provide the best possible care for patients that require catheterization procedures or cardiac surgeries.

Our team’s ongoing research initiatives are related to congenital heart defects, including cardiac imaging, cardiomyopathy/heart failure, myocardial functional analysis, and cardiovascular physiology of prenatal and postnatal life.
