About the Event

On March 26, 2025, in CIBC Hall, researchers, clinicians, and families from across McMaster University, McMaster Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton will come together to showcase research projects and innovations that span the child healthcare landscape.

Developed with partners from across Hamilton’s child health community, McMaster Child Health Research Day (MCHRD) is a knowledge translation forum for research teams and trainees from all disciplines who focus on improving health and quality of life for children and their families.

MCHRD is a full-day event featuring keynote speaker, research posters and presentations from diverse fields of study including innovations in clinical care, care of children with chronic conditions, determinants of health, health system improvement, mental health, patient and family engagement in research and more. How to Write an Abstract

This dynamic and engaging workshop was designed to help learners enhance their abstract writing skills. There was active involvement including hands-on learning activities and discussion. This also included peer discussion and feedback, identification of required components and inclusion of concise and impactful language.

In this workshop, learners delved into the art of crafting an effective research poster. They explored techniques to enhance the visual appeal of their poster, impart skills on effectively narrating their research story, discuss strategies for promoting interactivity, and emphasize the importance of ensuring that information is presented in a way accessible and comprehensible to a diverse audience, including those without specialized knowledge in the field.

McMaster Child Health Research Day (MCHRD) is a knowledge translation forum developed in collaboration with academic and community partners across Hamilton. MCHRD is designed to spotlight the research contributions of learners and staff from all disciplines who focus on improving health and quality of life for children and their families.

This in-person event will be held at McMaster University’s CIBC Hall on March 26, 2025, and includes oral and poster presentations by research learners and staff, a keynote speaker, networking opportunities, and awards. Poster and oral presentations will be adjudicated (judged) and awards will be presented at the end of the event.

The primary focus is to share the excellent work being done by learners and research staff supervised by faculty in McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences who specialize in child health research.

Undergraduate, medical students, graduate (MSc, PhD), post-graduate (postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows and residents) learners and research staff supervised by McMaster University’s Health Sciences faculty who are currently engaged in child health research are eligible to participate. Prospective participants must submit an abstract to have their research considered for inclusion.

The event is a collaboration with McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences’ child health research leaders including, the Department of Pediatrics, CanChild, the Offord Centre, and Centre for Metabolism, Obesity and Diabetes Research (MODR). Our hospital partners are McMaster Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

The event will be held in the CIBC Hall, on the 3rd floor of the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC). The third floor is accessible by both stairs and all three elevators in the building.

Plenty of seating will be available for presenters, guests, and facilitators as needed. A separate, quiet room for attendees, presenters, and facilitators will be available throughout the day for anyone who needs a break in a low-sensory environment.

Paid parking, including accessible parking spots, is available directly beside the MUSC.
