The second annual Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Lecture is on Thursday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The annual lecture, which addresses new and emerging research leading to improved pediatric healthcare, is named in memory of the late Dr. Peter Dent, broadly remembered as the driving force behind the creation of what is now known as McMaster Children’s Hospital and the adjacent Ronald McDonald House.
When Peter Dent passed away in September 2021, a collaborative memorial fund, supported by the Faculty of Health Sciences and Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, was established.
Through matching investment from the Department of Pediatrics and donations from friends, family, and colleagues across the community, The Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Fund raised half a million dollars – an incredible accomplishment reflective of Peter Dent’s reputation and the community’s generosity.
Enabled by the novel funding, the first ever “Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Lecture” was held in 2022.
This year’s speaker, Dr. Rae Yeung, a senior scientist and pediatric rheumatologist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, will discuss Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome. Her presentation will apply the lessons learned from Kawasaki Disease to COVID-associated hyperinflammation in children and identify key components of an emergency department evaluation for children suspected to have the syndrome.
As this is a hybrid event, participants are encouraged to attend the lecture in person or participate virtually via Zoom.
Following the lecture, attendees are invited to join a reception in McMaster’s Farncombe Atrium, where the Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Resident Scholarship in Pediatrics and Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Research Impact Fund will be presented to the 2023 recipients.
This is a ticketed event. Registration is required here.
