Johnson named inaugural Chair of EDI in pediatrics
Natasha Johnson, associate professor of pediatrics and division head of adolescent medicine, has been appointed associate chair of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) for the Department of Pediatrics.
Johnson, an advocate for children, youth, and families affected by racism, will work closely with pediatrics leadership, the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster Children’s Hospital, and community partners to guide a strategic vision to promote anti-oppression and anti-racism.
Johnson joined McMaster’s Department of Pediatrics in 2006 and has since developed a clinical and academic focus in adolescent sexual health with a particular emphasis on marginalized youth and equity-seeking populations. In 2018, her work in support of gender-diverse youth was recognized by Hamilton Health Sciences with the Pat Mandy Inclusion Award for outstanding contributions towards inclusion.
“I have no doubt that Natasha’s compassionate guidance and leadership will be transformative for Pediatrics”, said Angelo Mikrogianakis, department chair and clinical chief in Pediatrics. “I can’t wait to see what she can help us accomplish”.
Natasha Johnson assumes the role of associate chair of EDI, immediately.
