Pediatrics’ Tarnopolsky ranks among top medical scientists in Canada

McMaster Pediatrics Professor, Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky, ranked 33rd on Research.com’s 2022 list of the top medical scientists in Canada.

Leveraging data from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph, Resesarch.com evaluated scientists from around the world based on their h-index, the proportion of contribution made to the discipline of medicine, awards, and achievements. Profiles were then manually verified and cross-correlated against publications from credible sources.

Research.com describes the list as a tool to inspire scholars, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers to explore where the world’s leading experts are developing knowledge and to amplify and share expertise across the scientific community.

Mark Tarnopolsky’s work is supported through a research Chair in Neuromuscular Disorders from McMaster Children’s Hospital. His clinical studies focus on therapies for mitochondrial cytopathies, and clinical trials in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Friderich’s ataxia and Pompe disease. His research also explores muscle function in patients, aging, and animal models of neuromuscular and neurometabolic diseases. He is a member of the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) and the Centre for Metabolism, Obesity, and Diabetes Research (MODR).

Including Tarnopolsky, seven researchers from McMaster University were ranked among Canada’s top 50 scientists in medicine.
