Division members are actively involved in teaching of medical students, postgraduate pediatric residents, and subspecialty trainees.

The Division of Pediatric Palliative Medicine forms the physician component of McMaster Children’s Hospital’s quality of life and advanced care team. This team partners with children and families to enhance quality of life in the context of serious health conditions.

The division utilizes research as a tool to better understand and improve the quality of life of children with serious health conditions and their families, across spectrums of experience including in life, near end-of-life, and in bereavement. Focuses of this research include amplifying patient and family voices through standardized tools and measures, studying the impact of specialist programs on patient care, and exploring the best ways to manage children’s symptoms through pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions.
