Statement on Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression, and Indigenous Reconciliation
We seek to embody an anti-racist, anti-oppressive (ARAO) stance and advance action toward Indigenous reconciliation, self-determination and decolonization in our daily interactions and organizational structure. To achieve our vision, we are committed to engaging with patients, families and team members who are Black, Indigenous, and/or racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled/living with disabilities, historically victimized groups, and all members of equity-deserving groups. We aim to ensure meaningful representation and appropriate compensation for those with experiential knowledge who collaborate on advancing our shared vision. We commit to creating spaces to listen to and elevate their voices to achieve these goals. We pledge to adjust our structures, increase our knowledge, and update our language over time to better reflect the values of these communities.
We acknowledge that ARAO and Indigenous reconciliation are not achieved by a singular activity. They represent relentless and ongoing efforts.
The Department of Pediatrics is aligned with FHS’ Strategic Priorities of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and Indigenous Reconciliation.
